What is VPN?
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. The main purpose of our VPN service is to ensure your security and privacy. To do this, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® encrypts the traffic you transmit over the network. Want to learn more? Check out our More about VPN page.
What is KeepSolid ID?
To use any KeepSolid service, you need to create an account called KeepSolid ID. With this single account, you can log in to different security and productivity solutions such as KeepSolid VPN Unlimited®, Passwarden®, SmartDNS, Private Browser, Goals, etc.
Additionally, KeepSolid ID provides access to the User Office - a personal control center where you can easily manage your subscriptions to various KeepSolid services, configure two-factor authentication, edit your profile, and much more.
What is User Office and what is it for?
User Office is your personal control center where you can manage your subscriptions for KeepSolid products in a variety of ways. In this manual, we will answer the most frequent questions about the User Office on the example of the KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® service:
So how does VPN work?
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® adds a new network interface which functions exactly as if you are working with a direct internet connection. However, your IP address is different, and all your traffic is encrypted. VPN enables a host computer to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if they are an integral part of a private network; with all the functionality, security, and management policies that private networks provide.
Is BitTorrent and other file-sharing traffic allowed on all servers? If not, why?
The primary use of KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® is not to download torrents, but to offer online security. There are limited cases when our technical team has to subside connection speeds due to torrenting. We allow legal usage of P2P file sharing on US-California 1, Canada-Ontario, Romania, Luxembourg, and France servers.
Want to learn more? Check out our page How to use VPN for torrenting.
Can I use your VPN instead of my current ISP connection?
Unfortunately, no. An internet connection and a VPN service are two different things. You need an existing and/or working (e.g. Cable, DSL, 3G, Satellite etc.) internet connection to be able to use KeepSolid VPN Unlimited®.
What is the difference between a Proxy, SmartDNS, and a VPN service?
In essence, VPN connections are much more stable and secure than proxies. Not all applications are compatible with a proxy and most require a special configuration to work with one. You don't need any special set up for applications to work under a VPN connection. For the in-depth comparison, check out our page What is VPN vs Proxy.
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers a free SOCKS5 Proxy for all its users. You can explore its benefits, differences from VPN Unlimited, and instructions on how to set it up on the Socks5 proxy page.
As per SmartDNS service, it doesn’t encrypt traffic and thus doesn’t provide anonymity and data protection online. Its purpose is to help you overcome geo-restrictions, and it fulfills this task with a considerable benefit – your original internet speed is not affected in any way. You can find more information here.
Will KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® slow down my system or internet connection?
We do not decrease the connection speed for any of our users for any reason. It doesn’t matter if you are a trial user or have purchased a subscription—we will provide you the highest and maximum possible connection speed for the current conditions. However, the setting for your connection may vary because of the current workload on the selected VPN server and the distance from you to the selected VPN server.
Can I increase the speed of my connection when using a VPN service?
This is possible as KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® bypasses some of the throttles placed by ISP's.
To learn how you can make your VPN connection faster, check out our guide on how to increase slow VPN speed.
How many servers do you have?
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® has 500+ high-speed servers across 80+ locations all over the world. The latest server list is available right in the application. We are constantly expanding our VPN solution server presence, so that you have the best and most reliable VPN connections.
The server I need isn’t in the list. What can I do?
We are constantly expanding the list of our VPN servers. To let us know in what country you’d like to get a new server, vote for the new location here:
Does your app work in China?
We work day and night to provide you with the best service in any country; however, there are some technical limitations set by the Chinese government. We provide 6 VPN regions for our users in China: USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, India.
Also, for a stable VPN connection we recommend using the special KeepSolid Wise protocol. This option is available for iOS 11 or later, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux devices. You can enable it at Account > Network Settings (for desktop computers), or at Settings > Protocols (for mobile devices).
Can I watch US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and other streaming services abroad using KeepSolid VPN Unlimited®?
Yes, you can. KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® provides you with the possibility to stream the US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, HBO Now, ESPN+, Hulu, ITV, Rai.tv, Sony Crackle, Popcornflix, Hotstar, Disney+, and many more content no matter where you find yourself. Simply choose the appropriate server and access any shows, movies, or documentaries you wish. See our guide to unblock videos and access streaming services with VPN Unlimited.
If getting access to streaming services is your sole purpose, and you don’t need to encrypt your traffic or hide real IP, your best bet could be KeepSolid SmartDNS. Like VPN Unlimited®, it unblocks a number of streaming services including US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Sony Crackle, Rai.tv, HBO Now, Hulu, ITV, but doesn’t affect your original internet speed at all, so you can enjoy the smoothest streaming experience possible.
Does KeepSolid VPN Unlimited® protect other protocols like Mail or FTP?
Once you are connected to our VPN server, all your programs use a virtual network interface which protects any app that accesses the internet from your device.
I received Google's "Suspicious sign in prevented" e-mail. Why is that?
When you have an active VPN, it acts as a relay—which means you surf the internet and use web services with the VPN server’s IP address instead of your own. Google permanently monitors your IP’s geographical location; if it changes dramatically, Google will send you a warning about suspicious activity. Read more about it here.
What is the Streaming region?
It is a set of servers that are optimized for watching video from such services such as YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, HBO Now, ESPN+, Hulu, ITV, and so on.
In case your only purpose is to stream media without restrictions, you could try KeepSolid SmartDNS service. Unlike VPN, it doesn’t encrypt traffic, so your original internet speed is not affected in any way and you can enjoy the best streaming experience.

Why is my virtual IP detected to be from a different country than the one I choose?
Most of the geo-location services like WhatIsMyIP and SpeedTest rarely update their IP databases. That is why your virtual IP address can be detected as if it is located in a different country than the one you choose. To check out the location of our servers, please use the following link: http://www.neustar.biz/services/ip-intelligence. You need to input your virtual IP address in the appropriate field.

Should I use a VPN app or a browser extension?
This depends on your needs. VPN browser extension encrypts and anonymizes only your browser’s traffic, while VPN app covers all your internet traffic.
